Machined PP (polypropylene) parts are widely used in various fields due to the excellent properties of the material itself. The following details their material characteristics and typical application scenarios.

I. Material Characteristics of Machined PP Parts

  1. Balanced mechanical properties
    • They have moderate strength and rigidity, meeting the load-bearing requirements of ordinary structural components. Meanwhile, they possess good toughness, with impact resistance superior to many brittle plastics (such as PS and PMMA). They can maintain a certain degree of toughness in low-temperature environments and are not prone to brittle fracture.
    • With a low density (approximately 0.9-0.91g/cm³), PP is one of the lighter plastics. Machined parts made from it are lightweight, which can reduce the overall load of equipment.
  2. Excellent chemical stability
    • Resistant to corrosion by most acids and alkalis (such as dilute hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, etc.) and organic solvents (such as ethanol, gasoline, etc.), they are not prone to chemical reactions or dissolution, making them suitable for environments in contact with chemical media.
    • They have strong tolerance to fluids such as water and steam, are non-absorbent, and their performance changes little after long-term contact with water.
  3. Good processability
    • With good thermoplasticity, PP is easy to machine through processes like cutting, drilling, and milling. It is not prone to cracking or chipping during processing, and can achieve a high surface finish.
    • The material cost is relatively low, offering high cost performance, making it suitable for mass production or low-cost part requirements.
  4. Other characteristics
    • Excellent insulation performance, non-conductive, suitable for manufacturing electrical insulation parts.
    • Weather resistance can be improved through modification (such as adding ultraviolet stabilizers to make weather-resistant PP). Ordinary PP is prone to aging when used outdoors for a long time, but remains stable in indoor or dark environments.
    • Non-toxic (food-grade PP), meeting food contact safety standards, and can be used for parts related to food and medicine.

    • Transmission system accessories: such as light gears and bearing cages (utilizing their wear resistance and low friction coefficient).
