OEM CNC Machined 2205 Stainless Steel in China

OEM CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China

We are a China-based CNC machining workshop dedicated to OEM and draw-to-print parts made from 2205 duplex stainless steel. Every batch of CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China that leaves our floor is produced from customer drawings, marked dimensions and agreed tolerances, from a single engineered component to repeat serial production.

2205 is a duplex grade built around a balanced austenite–ferrite microstructure. It combines the load-bearing strength of a duplex steel with the chloride corrosion resistance expected in marine, chemical, oil and gas and fluid-control equipment. Our turning, milling, drilling and tapping processes are tuned specifically to the work-hardening behaviour and high cutting forces of this material.

Instead of offering a fixed catalogue, we machine your geometry: flanges, fittings, fastener blanks, valve and pump components, shafts, spacers, brackets and custom duplex parts can all be produced to print, with first-article feedback and stable repeat-batch quality.

2205 grade designations across standards

Drawings for CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China may arrive under several national or regional designation systems. The table below maps the most frequently seen equivalents, followed by the reference chemical composition used to verify incoming bar, plate and forging stock.

Equivalent designations by standard

European ENX2CrNiMoN22-5-3 / 1.4462
German DIN / W-Nr.1.4462
ASTM / ASMEA240 plate, A276 bar, A182 F60 forgings, A790 pipe
Japanese JISSUS329J3L
Chinese GB/T022Cr22Ni5Mo3N
Swedish SS2377
Typical chemical composition (wt.%)
ElementRange / maximum
Chromium (Cr)21.0 – 23.0 %
Nickel (Ni)4.5 – 6.5 %
Molybdenum (Mo)3.0 – 3.5 %
Nitrogen (N)0.08 – 0.20 %
Carbon (C)≤ 0.030 %
Manganese (Mn)≤ 2.00 %
Silicon (Si)≤ 1.00 %
Phosphorus / SulfurP ≤ 0.030 % · S ≤ 0.020 %
Iron (Fe)Balance

Equivalent grades are matched by chemistry window and property range rather than by name alone. The exact delivery condition, heat/lot record and dimensional standard always follow the customer drawing and purchase specification. S31803 is the earlier, slightly narrower chemistry that 2205 / S32205 was later optimized from.

Why designers specify 2205 duplex stainless steel

The value of CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China comes from the material itself: a dual-phase structure that closes many of the gaps left by standard austenitic grades such as 304 and 316.

01

High mechanical strength

The 0.2% proof strength starts around 450 MPa in the solution-annealed condition, roughly twice that of 304/316. Walls can be thinner and components lighter while carrying the same working load, which matters for flanges, shafts and pressure parts.

02

Pitting and crevice resistance

With 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum and added nitrogen, 2205 reaches a PREN of about 35 and above. It performs well in chloride-bearing water, brine and coastal atmospheres where standard austenitic grades begin to pit.

03

Stress corrosion cracking resistance

The ferrite phase sharply reduces susceptibility to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, a common failure mode of 300-series parts in hot chloride environments such as heat-transfer and process equipment.

04

Fatigue and erosion wear behaviour

High tensile and fatigue strength, combined with corrosion resistance, suit rotating and flow-exposed components such as pump shafts, impellers, valve stems, agitator parts and high-pressure fittings.

05

Dimensional stability

2205 has a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than austenitic stainless steels and thermal conductivity near 19 W/(m·K), so machined features move less under cutting heat and service temperature swings.

06

Toughness and ductility balance

Despite its strength, the grade keeps meaningful elongation and impact toughness across a wide service temperature range, avoiding the brittleness associated with many high-strength ferritic materials.

From a single piece to high-volume production

CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China is not limited to large blanket orders. The same drawing can be supported at every stage of a product's life cycle, with tooling and fixturing carried over between batches.

Stage 1

Single piece / prototype

One-off engineering parts and design-validation samples, with first-article dimensional feedback before any quantity is committed.

Stage 2

Low-volume pilot run

Small pilot lots for field testing and early assemblies, using soft or dedicated fixturing according to part geometry.

Stage 3

Repeat batch production

Scheduled repeat batches with stored programs, fixture records and inspection plans so every lot machines identically.

Stage 4

High-volume series

Optimized cycle times, multi-axis consolidation and balanced machine loading for steady serial delivery of duplex components.

How 2205 is machined reliably

Duplex stainless steel machines differently from 316: cutting forces are higher and a worked-hardened skin forms quickly if a tool dwells or rubs. The practices below are built into every CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China workflow on our floor.

1

Rigid setups and sharp tooling

Short tool overhang, stable clamping and rigid workholding resist the higher cutting forces of duplex material. Edges are kept sharp and replaced on schedule so the tool cuts instead of burnishing the surface.

2

Positive geometry and chip control

Positive-rake inserts and dedicated chip breakers form manageable chips and limit built-up edge. Programmed feeds keep the edge continuously engaged beneath any previously work-hardened layer.

3

Balanced speeds and feeds

Surface speeds are moderated relative to free-machining austenitic grades while feeds stay positive, avoiding tool dwell at corners. Thread milling is used where tapping torque would stress thin sections.

4

Coolant and thermal control

Generous, directed flood or through-tool coolant evacuates heat and chips from the cutting zone, protects tool life and keeps dimensional drift small across long machining cycles.

Machining and inspection on the floor

From raw duplex stock to measured finish, CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China moves through dedicated machining equipment and independent dimensional verification.

Typical applications of machined 2205 parts

Industries choose CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China wherever mechanical load and chloride or process corrosion appear at the same time.

How an order moves through the workshop

A transparent, repeatable route keeps every batch of CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China aligned with the drawing, from first review to packed delivery.

STEP 01

Drawing review

Dimensions, tolerances, threads, surface requirements and material call-outs are checked, with manufacturability feedback returned before production.

STEP 02

Material and setup planning

2205 stock is selected by heat/lot, operations are sequenced, and fixturing and tooling are prepared for the first article.

STEP 03

Machining with in-process checks

Turning, milling, drilling and tapping run to program, with critical dimensions checked while the part is still fixtured.

STEP 04

Final inspection and packaging

Finished parts undergo 2D/3D dimensional verification, deburring, cleaning and protective packaging suited to long-distance freight.

Engineering built around the drawing

Every project starts from the customer's own drawing, sample or marked specification. Geometric tolerances, thread systems, bore fits, surface finish and assembly interfaces are reviewed before the first chip is cut, so difficult duplex features are solved at the planning stage rather than on the finished part.

3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis milling, precision turning, drilling and tapping share one production flow, which lets a complex 2205 component move between operations without losing its setup references.

Stable supply from prototype to series

Programs, fixture records and inspection plans are retained between orders, so a validated prototype can grow into repeat batches and high-volume production without restarting development. Heat and lot records of the 2205 material stay with the corresponding production batch.

The result is a predictable source of CNC machined 2205 stainless steel in China: strong, corrosion-resistant duplex components produced accurately, batch after batch, for demanding fluid, mechanical and process equipment worldwide.
