6061-T6 aluminum alloy is the most widely used lightweight metal material for foreign trade automation equipment, tooling jigs, precision frames, new energy parts and general mechanical components. Featuring moderate strength, good toughness, light weight, excellent thermal conductivity, stable anodizing effect and outstanding corrosion resistance, it is widely exported to Europe, America, Australia, Southeast Asia and other global markets. However, 6061 aluminum alloy has sensitive machining characteristics: soft texture, easy tool adhesion, high deformation risk for thin-walled structures and tool deflection deviation in multi-hole processing, which easily cause dimensional drift, flatness out-of-tolerance and obvious tool marks after finishing. As a foreign trade-oriented precision machining manufacturer, we optimize a complete set of processing technologies according to the cutting characteristics, stress deformation rules and surface treatment requirements of 6061 aluminum, stably supplying high-consistency and low-rework-rate precision aluminum parts for overseas clients.

1. Core Machining Processes for 6061 Aluminum Alloy
We provide full-process precision deep machining for 6061 aluminum plates, rods, profiles and forgings, covering CNC turning, high-speed milling, drilling, reaming, tapping, boring, grooving, surface grinding, special-shaped contour machining, deburring, chamfering and precision shaping. We customize various equipment frames, mounting base plates, precision jigs, module brackets, heat dissipation parts, automation connecting fittings and non-standard aluminum structural components strictly in accordance with customer drawings and samples. All processes comply with ISO, DIN and ANSI international tolerance standards to meet overseas batch assembly and equipment supporting requirements.
1.1 High-Speed Precision Turning
High-speed CNC lathes are adopted for rotary parts such as 6061 aluminum shafts, sleeves, flanges, hollow joints and stepped shafts. 6061 aluminum features low cutting resistance and fast chip removal, but is prone to built-up edges that cause surface scratching and poor finish. We apply special high-gloss aluminum cutting tools with high rotating speed, light feed rate and sufficient emulsified liquid cooling, completely eliminating tool adhesion, burrs and scratches. The tolerance of conventional workpieces is stably controlled within ±0.02mm, and precision matching parts can reach ±0.01mm, ensuring high coaxiality of inner and outer circles and end face verticality to meet the precision transmission and sealing assembly requirements of foreign trade products. For slender aluminum shafts and thin-walled aluminum sleeves, we optimize tool paths and adopt segmented cutting to offset vibration deformation and guarantee batch dimensional consistency.
1.2 CNC High-Speed Milling and Special-Shaped Precision Machining
CNC machining centers are used for high-speed milling of aluminum base plates, frame panels, multi-hole mounting plates, special-shaped brackets and deep cavity structural parts. The biggest challenges in 6061 aluminum milling are stress deformation and thermal deformation of thin-walled, large flat and deep groove structures. We adopt layered roughing, repeated finishing and margin decreasing processing logic to release cutting stress and avoid plate arching, corner collapse and flatness out-of-tolerance caused by heavy one-time cutting. For large-scale precision base plates commonly used in foreign trade, vacuum adsorption tooling positioning, low-temperature cooling and post-machining stress shaping are applied to strictly control flatness, parallelism and straightness, ensuring unified reference for multi-station holes and accurate installation of automation equipment.
1.3 Drilling, Precision Reaming and Tapping
6061 aluminum is soft in texture, which easily leads to rough hole walls, oversized apertures and edge chipping during ordinary drilling, as well as position deviation in deep hole processing and thread slipping or tooth damage in tapping. To meet foreign trade precision hole requirements, we adopt a two-step process of pre-drilling and precision reaming to revise aperture roundness and accuracy and ensure smooth hole walls. For metric and imperial threads ranging from M3 to M20, special aluminum taps with low torque and uniform feed parameters are used to avoid thread slipping and incomplete tooth profiles. All threaded holes, positioning holes and mounting holes are fully inspected with go/no-go gauges and plug gauges to fully comply with overseas on-site assembly standards. Meanwhile, we reserve coating compensation for anodization in advance to prevent dimensional deviation of apertures and screw holes after surface treatment.
1.4 Finishing, Stress Relief and Auxiliary Post-Processing
All finished 6061 precision parts undergo full-range deburring, edge rounding and surface finishing without sharp edges or burrs, meeting the appearance and safety standards of exported mechanical parts. Stress relief aging treatment is applied to large flat plates, thin-walled parts and complex cavity components after machining to eliminate residual processing stress and prevent long-term deformation and dimensional drift caused by sea transportation, warehousing and temperature changes. We also provide supporting processes such as sandblasting, natural/colored anodizing, hard anodizing and conductive anodizing to ensure uniform appearance, excellent oxidation resistance and stable color performance, satisfying the appearance and anti-corrosion requirements of high-end exported equipment.
2. Common 6061 Aluminum Machining Difficulties and Solutions
Based on years of foreign trade production experience, 6061 aluminum machining has four core pain points: tool adhesion and surface scratching, thin-walled deformation, unstable flatness of large plates and batch dimensional drift. We have established standardized solutions: first, special aluminum cutting tools with regular replacement are used throughout production to avoid surface scratching caused by built-up edges; second, flexible clamping and layered cutting are adopted for thin-walled and thin-plate parts to prevent extrusion deformation; third, roughing and finishing are separated for large flat workpieces with reserved stress release time and cooling control to reduce thermal deformation; fourth, first-piece confirmation, in-process sampling and full finished product inspection are implemented for all batch orders with unified tool compensation, machine parameters and clamping methods. This ensures consistent precision and appearance of each batch, greatly reducing rework and after-sales risks for foreign trade orders.
3. Practical Foreign Trade Machining Cases
Case 1: Batch Production of 6061 Aluminum Precision Mounting Plates for Australian Automation Equipment
The client is an Australian automation equipment manufacturer, purchasing large quantities of 6061-T6 aluminum multi-hole mounting plates and module base plates for assembly line automation equipment. The core requirements include high flatness of large plates, accurate hole position tolerance, zero deformation, burr-free and mark-free surface, high batch interchangeability and direct compatibility with automatic module installation. The client’s previous supplier suffered frequent problems such as flatness deviation, hole position offset and long-term deformation, resulting in assembly jamming and time-consuming on-site calibration.
We customized a targeted processing solution for large multi-hole aluminum plates: segmented procedures of roughing margin removal, stress relief standing and finishing shaping, combined with vacuum adsorption tooling to ensure uniform plate stress. Custom positioning tooling and step-by-step drilling & reaming processes are adopted to strictly control hole spacing and position accuracy. All finished products undergo unified stress relief aging treatment to completely eliminate internal processing stress. For hundreds of parts in this batch, the flatness is controlled within 0.02mm/100mm with zero hole deviation and zero deformation. No secondary calibration is required after installation, greatly improving assembly efficiency. We have become the long-term fixed supplier of precision aluminum parts for the client with stable repeat orders.
Case 2: Custom Machining of 6061 Special-Shaped Thin-Walled Aluminum Brackets for European New Energy Equipment
The client is a German new energy parts trader, customizing multiple types of 6061-T6 special-shaped thin-walled brackets and heat dissipation connecting aluminum parts. The workpieces feature thin walls, complex curved surfaces, grooving and multi-hole structures, requiring light weight, stable strength and high surface finish for lightweight assembly of new energy equipment, as well as excellent discoloration resistance in humid overseas environments. Such thin-walled special-shaped parts are highly prone to tool vibration, deformation and edge chipping, demanding strict process arrangement and parameter control.
Aiming at thin-walled processing difficulties, we optimized the processing sequence to remove margins first and disperse cutting stress, adopting low-depth, high-speed and multi-pass finishing to eliminate tool deflection deformation and surface ripple.
